Question of the day

When driving in the rain, fog, or smoke in the daytime, what lights should you use?

When driving in conditions such as rain, fog, or smoke during the daytime, using low beam headlights is essential for improving visibility and ensuring that other drivers can see you. Low beam headlights project light down towards the road, reducing glare that can be problematic in these weather conditions. Using high beam headlights in such situations can actually worsen visibility for both you and other drivers because the bright light can reflect off of the precipitation, fog, or smoke, creating a blinding effect. Choosing not to use any lights or relying solely on parking lights is inadequate in these scenarios. It can lead to decreased visibility and an increased risk of accidents. Therefore, the appropriate and safest option is to use low beam headlights to enhance visibility and maintain safety on the road.

Every question on Florida's Class E Knowledge Exam comes directly from one source: the Official Florida Driver License Handbook, a free PDF from FLHSMV. If you've studied the handbook thoroughly, you've effectively seen the source material for the entire test, there's no outside content sneaking in.

The exam: 50 multiple-choice questions, 80% to pass (40 correct), covering rules of the road, traffic signs, signals, pavement markings, and Florida-specific laws. Computer-administered, scored immediately.

The prerequisite course differs by age, which trips people up: teens complete a state-approved 6-hour DETS course, adults complete a 4-hour TLSAE course. Different course, different length, same underlying purpose of preparing you for this exam.

Testing logistics also differ by age. Teens can schedule and take the official knowledge exam online. Adults have to test in person at a tax collector's office or FLHSMV service center. If you're helping a teen and an adult both prepare, don't assume the same process applies to both, it doesn't.

Once you pass, you're not immediately eligible for a full license. Florida requires holding your learner's license for a full year from issuance before qualifying for a driver license, unless you're already 18 or older, in which case that waiting period doesn't apply the same way.

Because every question traces back to the handbook, the highest-value preparation isn't generic road-safety knowledge, it's familiarity with how Florida specifically phrases its rules on signage, right-of-way, and pavement markings, since state-specific wording is exactly where handbook-based tests trip up people who "already know how to drive."

Our practice questions are built around the same rules-of-the-road, signage, and Florida-specific content the official handbook covers, with explanations for every answer.
